INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND

Recently, Middleton, Wisconsin was ranked number one best place to live in America by Money Magazine.  And the fact is there are many communities in Wisconsin that would qualify as top places to live, work and raise a family.

The state of Wisconsin has some significant advantages over its neighbors and the rest of the country.  We boast an enviable quality of life, a lower cost of living than most states, a top-tier education system on all levels, and accessible world-class health care. Wisconsin has dedicated and highly productive workers.  What we need, however, is a vision for growth and the commitment and will to transform that vision into reality.

Competitive Wisconsin, Inc. (CWI), created in 1981, is a nonpolitical consortium of agriculture, business, education and labor leaders, that focuses exclusively on developing and advocating statewide policies designed to retain and grow existing businesses, create new businesses, and sustain recruitment of high-wage workers to Wisconsin.  In short, CWI’s mission is to promote public policy that will create a competitive economic climate favorable to high-paying jobs and higher per capita income.

Many of the nation’s most successful companies have launched and grown their businesses in Wisconsin.  Others have recognized Wisconsin’s assets and relocated here with much success.

CWI believes the only way for Wisconsin’s economy to thrive is to encourage the expansion of existing companies and to create a steady supply of new companies.

There is a successful precedent for this strategy.
